I'm not going to lie to you.. it's awkward to be in front of a camera! That feeling is totally normal but there are four key ways to be comfortable. Read below for the tips!
1. Hire a photographer who you can connect with
When researching a professional photographer here in Bergen County, New Jersey.. it's important that you choose a photographer who eases your mind. What I mean by that is when you're reading through their website, Instagram and emails or hop on a phone call with them.. do you connect with their personality? Do you feel like you can be friends with them? Hiring a photographer is an investment in your memories, you want to be sure you like, connect and can easily be yourself around that person!
2. Wear clothes that are comfortable, feel like you but add a little OOMPH!
For all of my sessions I help my clients choose what to wear. I don't just send over random pieces that I think will photograph beautifully. First, I send over a questionnaire to find out your likes, dislikes, what parts of your body you're uncomfortable with, etc. So.. be 100% honest! I would never send over short sleeve options for someone who is uncomfortable showing their arms! But, in order for me to send over the right stuff (oh hey NKOTB), I need you to answer the questionnaire truthfully :) After receiving your questionnaire I start virtually shopping for your family!
3. Focus on being with your family, not about what it all looks like.
My top priority at your session is to capture your family's connection with each other. The genuine laughter, the hugs, smooches, hand holding, games, and silliness. When we focus on being in the moment with the people you feel most comfortable around then the magic and beauty comes out naturally! When we are stressing about smiling perfectly at my camera it comes across stiff and you end up being uncomfortable in end!
4. Read their Google reviews!
Reading through a photographer's Google review is a must! Seeing the trust they have built with other families and mommas like yourself eases any nerves you may have! It's just like looking through the reviews for a restaurant, furniture pieces and vacation rentals. Want to read through mine? Click here!
