There are so many steps I take to make sure we have a successful session. Things like, clear communication, getting to know you questionnaires, styling your family, location scouting, using specific games and prompts to engage with your kids of all ages so they have fun during our time together & so much more.
BUT! There are things YOU can do as the client to also make sure we have a successful and seamless session:
- Make sure your clothes fit. I suggest trying on your clothes about a week before your session to make sure everyone looks and feels their best. No one feels comfortable in clothes that are too tight and when your clothes are too big it can look like your little one is missing a hand if the sleeves are longer than their arms.
- Be on time. Besides the obvious; when you show up late to any kind of appointment you're more stressed out, right? I get it! It doesn't feel good to be running late, things happen.. getting yourself together plus your kids is not an easy task. But, if you're able to plan your day to get out the door a little earlier than you likely would can make you feel calm for your photo session.
- If someone is sick - reschedule! It's okay! From experience, when one of your kids (or you) isn't feeling well.. it's going to come out through the photos. No one has the energy to be silly and upbeat when they're feeling under the weather. Stay home - we'll reschedule.
- Making sure those flyaway hairs and stray hairs are tamed! If you're like me and feel more confident getting a professional blow out (shout out to Shampoo!) be sure to tell your hair dresser you have a professional photo session and if they can make sure to use hair spray. You can also do this yourself if you are doing your own hair. Another note - if your little one's hair is constantly in his or hers face, I recommend clipping their hair back, using hairspray or a headband are great options!
- Come prepared with tissues to wipes. Whether it's dried boogers or if there was some snacking on the way to your session, being able to wipe them on the spot is super helpful!
- Iron and or steam your outfits. It's common for your clothes to get a little wrinkled in the car but be sure to give your clothes some TLC the night before your session.
