What a year it's been! I know technically it's not over but we're close to the end! I have met so many new beautiful families this year and reconnected with returning clients as well... I am so grateful for all of the families who choose to trust ME with their most cherished memories.
I have clients already on the calendar for the new year! I never want to
"panic" new and returning potential clients about booking their session ASAP but I feel obligated to warn you that yes, I do book out as far as a year in advance and I only accept a certain number of sessions a month plus weekends are even harder to book and certain times of year are more demanding than others... hello Fall foliage!
So, I wanted to put together an informative blog post(s) about all the things you need to consider when booking your 2024 session with me.
All seasons offer their own unique positive points. I'll break down each season for you in four parts...
welcome to Part 1: Winter!
From January-mid March I don't schedule outdoor portrait sessions. I think it's pretty obvious as to why.. but I'll write it out anyway. It's too cold here in New Jersey and can be uncomfortable for everyone to be outside for an hour. Can it be beautiful? Absolutely! However, I promise you that your kids and your spouse will not be happy. When you and your family are uncomfortable in the weather conditions it will come through in your portraits. That's not something you want preserved to remember for years to come!
If your family are snow-bunnies and legit LOVE the cold and maybe even have a vision of playing in the snow... then yes... Let's schedule! It's been done before, and I have one coming up. But you shouldn't force your family to wear pretty clothes without their hats, gloves and heavy jackets and expect them to be their natural loving selves.
So, what kind of session is best for a Winter session? Aside from Newborn and Maternity Sessions... lifestyle family sessions are an incredible option! What exactly is a lifestyle session? It's the most laid-back session you can imagine. Staying in with the family is so comfy during the winter months... it's an added bonus to have that time together photographed. For sessions like these, I come to your home and document your family doing what they pretty much do every day.. play, maybe even eat, snuggling together on the couch, color, pretend play and more - if there's a specific tradition or activity you all like to do together please share that with me!
Below are some examples of Winter sessions - a mixture of families who love the snow, or who simply love being at home together.
