Let's talk about Newborn Sessions that include siblings! As much as I reiterate that your new baby is in charge of the session.. so is the big sister!
It's a huge change for them to have a new little human around who is getting so much attention. Yes, we are there for your new baby's portraits and the new dynamic of your family.. but it's important for me to make sure to also give big sister some love, too! From experience, I love to start these sessions with the older siblings showing me their favorite toy or their room so they can feel comfortable with me and it's a bonus that now they're excited to hang out with a new person for an hour or two. While I'm hanging out with your first born, this also helps mom and dad do any last minute prep for themselves or their new baby.
For this session.. Big Sister Sophie was the sweetest!! She was so excited to hang out with her baby brother, Charlie but also to hang out with me ;) And the feeling was mutual!
My number one tip for Newborn Sessions with older siblings is to get all the photos that include them done first! That way they're not waiting around getting antsy if we have to stop for feedings, soothing or diaper changes. I don't blame them.. there's toys to be played with and maybe even lunch to eat! So once Sophie was done with her photos she got to play and eat while I finished up portraits of mom and dad with Baby Charlie. And if you need extra help, have a family member come over to hang out with them when they are done with their photos! Doing this also gives mom and dad some peace of mind.. say goodbye to stress!
After I was done with photos of mom, dad and Charlie I couldn't forget about my special treat I got for Sophie! I work with an another amazing woman owned business, Nikii Marie Cakes! Nikki custom designed these beautiful cookies that match my brand for me to gift to new clients after their session! You can see a photo of Sophie with her cookie below :)
No more worrying about scheduling your Newborn Session with older siblings.. I got you!
